O Canada!

Good morning! I know I'm a day early but . . . to all my Canadian friends out there I wanted to say a very Happy Canada Day!!

For my card I used the very appropriately named Paper Pretties set, Canadian Girl! I made this card a bit bigger than a normal A2 - it's 6.5" x 4". I had fun mixing up some fun colors and dp here - the cardstock is Kraft, the dp is red polka dotted (PTI) and then a nice warm brown for accents - it just seemed to "speak" to me today! ha ha!

Hey, want a great sketch to have some fun with?? Danielle's weekly Prettie Challenge is a sketch challenge this week! Sketches are great - a BIG part of the work is already done for you! Plus, if you play along, you could win a gift certificate to the Paper Pretties Boutique! Go ahead and play, you'll have fun!!

Well my friends, I hope you all enjoy the day. We're hoping for the sun to reappear for the July 4th holiday, but anytime really would be fine with me! :)

Cardstock: Kraft, White (Papertrey Ink), Brown (Bazzill), Patterned Paper: Mini Dots (Papertrey Ink), Stamps: Canadian Girl (Paper Pretties), Ink: Tuxedo Black (Memento), L'Amour Red (Palette), Accessories: Ribbon, Twine, Button (Papertrey Ink), Nestabilities, Copic Markers, Brads (Pink Hedgehog Crafts)

Star-Spangled Ideas!

Please don't miss my KSS Monday post below - there are details about a release and how you can WIN!!

With the 4th of July holiday fast approaching I thought you might like a few quick decorating/crafting ideas! These neat ideas came from the Better Homes & Garden's website and it's stuffed full with lots of projects to make your 4th more festive!!

How cute is this little bucket!! This one happens to be used to hold those cute star bubble wands (that you can see here how to make). But you could also just use a cute red bucket, fill it with red, white & blue M&M's and then add some flag & stars picks- totally cute!!

Check out this link for 4th of July Craft ideas - lots of things for moms & kids to make together! I love the Wind Catcher on the first picture - something so easy and quick for the children to put together and it's made with everyday items, no trips to the craft store needed! :)

Then this link will take you to some star-spangled Decorating Ideas!! Oh my goodness the pictures of homes and their decor! Makes me want to redecorate my whole house using red, white & blue!!

Better Homes & Gardens has always been one of my mother-in-laws favorite publications! She keeps old copies, seasonal issues, and uses them to decorate her house when they are in season - seriously! It's always neat to pick up 3 or 4 years of holiday issues and browse to see how things have changed or not! Head over to BHG.com for lots of beautiful ideas - you may even get an idea for a card! *wink*

Something Old . . . Something New!

Summer Invites!

The weekend has arrived and since the sun is out finally (briefly I believe) it makes me want to barbeque or have a beach party! I pulled out a great set from Rubber Soul today, Party (which happens to be at a fantastic sale price!) and made a quick, fun invitation for all your summer gatherings.

The sketch is this week's CPS Sketch #121 - great sketch!! These invitations would be so fast and easy to whip out - then you'd have more time to clean - LOL! :) The dp is also from Rubber Soul, it's called Garden Variety and I love the fun citrus colors and the pop of red!

I colored the limeaid using Copic markers and my 1 Prismacolor marker - it's Chartreuse and it's the perfect shade of yellowish-green that I can't seem to find in a Copic. I added a nice thick coat of Glossy Accents to the pitcher to make it glass-like.

Take a look at all the great sales going on at Rubber Soul! Thanks for visiting and have a great weekend!

P.S. We've extended the deadline just a wee bit for Stamping Around CT - head over to the website and register to come stamp with us! I'll be teaching, it's going to be soooo much fun!! :)

Cardstock: White (GP), Patterned Paper: Garden Variety (Rubber Soul), Stamps: Party (Rubber Soul), Ink: Memento, Accessories: Nestabilities, Copic markers, Prismacolor marker, Glossy Accents (Judekins), Dimensionals

Happy Bella Birthday Hop!

Welcome to the Birthday Blog Skip, Hop & Dance sponsored by Stamping Bella! If you've just happened upon my blog, you can CLICK HERE to start from the beginning at Bloggabella.

It's Em's birthday today and what a fun way to celebrate!!! A hop in honor of the Queen Bella herself! :) Happy Birthday dear Em - have some cake & ice cream for me!!

I pulled out another one of my new stamps from Stamping Bella, Violet Bitty Bloom - is she not sweet?!! And I got another chance to play with purple tones again! The little crocheted flower was made using Nichole's pattern and some DMC floss. I have to say, I'm not a fan of using DMC floss to crochet, although next time I might separate it. It was very bulky and I kept getting my hook caught in one or two threads. I think I may crochet tight (which is how I knit too so makes sense!).

Anyway, I hope you like your card Em - I'll get it in the mail to you soon!! Next stop on the Birthday Blog Hop is Jess' Obsession.

Cardstock: Plum Pudding, White (Papertrey Ink), Patterned Paper: Hip Hip Hooray Crosshatch (Karen Neuberger - Paper Salon), Stamps: Violet Bitty Bloom, Happy Birthday (Stamping Bella), Ink: Memento, Accessories: Nestabilities, Corner Rounder Punch, Bella Baubles, yellow adhesive pearl, white gel pen, Copic markers, crocheted flower & button, Plum Pudding ribbon (Papertrey Ink)

Salt Challenge - Fruits of the Spirit

It's Melita's turn to host the Salt Challenge this week and here's what she had to say:

"Continuing along the same vein as Lythan and Kim, our focus this week is on the work on the Holy Spirit in us and how it is manifested in the community of believers, namely, through the fruits of the Holy Spirit in our lives which are so clearly laid out in Galatians 5:22-23. 'But the fruit of the Spirit is love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness, gentleness and self-control. Against such things there is no law.'"

You can read the rest of her post on the Salt blog. My response is a bit unexpected I think and I admit it is not what I had intended but . . . I made this card earlier in the week intending to use it for my KSS Christmas in June sale post. Another card was made and I used it instead but then I realized that the sentiment on this card was perfect "peace, joy & happiness." A sentiment great for Christmas time, yes! But peace and joy are also fruits of the Spirit - and ones that we can possess because of the birth of Christ!! He is our Peace, He is the source of all Joy!! We talk about it a lot in December, but this is something that should stay with us all through the year!

I used 3 Step Misltetoe & Holly from Kitchen Sink Stamps for my card. Today marks the start of KSS's Christmas in June sale. By using the coupon code HOLLY you will get 15% off everything in the store!

Please visit the Salt blog and see what the other ladies have done on this topic. And if you'd like to play along, please leave us a link!! I'll be back in a few hours with something special! :)

Cardstock: Riding Hood Red, Handsome Hunter (SU!), White (Papertrey Ink), Patterned Paper: SU! (retired), Stamps: 3 Step Mistletoe & Holly, sentiment from 3 Step Poinsettias (Kitchen Sink Stamps), Ink: Bamboo Leaves, Cottage Ivy (Memento), Handsome Hunter (SU!), Ladybug Red (Memento), Cranberry Crisp, Bravo Burgundy (SU!), Accessories: Crystal Effects, Nestabilities, Cranberry Ribbon (Kitchen Sink Stamps), sewing machine

Prettie Pet Wednesday

Happy Prettie Wednesday!! This week we are showing the cards from my challenge - I challenged the Prettie Girls to do my daughter Emma's challenge, to make a card with an animal on it.

This week was easy for me because, if you remember, last week I did the wrong challenge! So my card has been made for a week - woo hoo!! :)

I used the cute little dog from Rainy Day Friends from Paper Pretties and even though she's a bit bigger than this I colored her like our Golden Retriever, Ruby. The colors for the card were taken from last week's color challenge on SCS. I stamped the clouds using Fresh Snow (PTI) ink and the rain with Baja Breeze. I think I like the color combo - it's different!

Take a few minutes to visit the other
and see what kind of wild animal cards they've come up with!

Have you been checking out the Stamping Around site lately?! We've been spotlighting the teacher for Stamping Around Connecticut - I cannot wait to see them!! Hope you're signed up and ready to stamp!! :) And if you interested in Vermont - registration is open for that as well! If you live in New England you know Vermont is THE place to be in the Fall so I know the Inn will fill up fast! Don't miss out - we'll start spotlighting the teachers for VT next week - prepare to be AMazed!! :) Have a great day!

Sunny Aloha

I needed a bit of sunshine today . . . we're on like day 30 of rain! Ok, maybe not 30 but we sure have had a rainy June! I think maybe the sun is expected to make an appearance on Thursday or Friday - just in time for my parents to arrive home from their cross-country camping trip! :)

So, here's the sun for me today, I've always loved yellow! Growing up my bedroom was a sunny yellow color, it has always made me happy! So today I decided to make a card with yellow as the predominate color. I used Aloha Sophia which is actually the Stamp of the Month Club stamp for next month at Paper Pretties! Wouldn't it be nice to be sitting on some tropical island right now?!

The layout for this card is from a blog I found following links, Clean & Simple Stamping. I'm sure it's not new to many of you but I think I'm behind a bit - lol! Anyway, I took a bit of liberty with the sketch but I like the result! The dp is from October Afternoon's Ducks In a Row line.

Have you checked out The Paper Clip lately? Every week Jodi picks a Prettie Card of the Week. This week's COTW is from Wendy Bond using Flirty Fortunes - such a cuuuuttteee card!! Upload your Prettie card to the Paper Pretties Gallery and you could be featured! Have a great day!

Cardstock: White (Papertrey Ink), Green (Bazzill), Patterned Paper: Sleep Tight, Ducks In a Row collection (October Afternoon), Stamps: Aloha (Paper Pretties), Ink: Memento, Accessories: Flower (Prima), brad (SU!), Nestabilities, Copic markers

Christmas in June!

Did you realize that there are 6 months until Christmas?? Yikes!! Doesn't it seem like we just got over the holidays - sheesh does time go fast or what?!

Today's Kitchen Sink Stamps Monday is all about the celebration of Christmas and YOU get to celebrate! Starting on Thursday, the 25th KSS is having it's annual 6 months Before Christmas sale. By using the coupon code HOLLY you will get 15% off everything in the store! Wooo hooo!

But wait, here's another bit of information - KSS will also be retiring several sets!! Maria's making way for more great sets (wait until you see the new releases on July 7th!!) so beginning today these soon to be retired sets will be group for special discounts - and during the 3 day sale with an extra 15% they will be incredible bargains!

My card today was made with one of the retiring sets - and one of my favorites!! Playful Christmas. I have had so much fun with this set of trees!! If you don't have this set - you need it before it's gone for good! The layout is based on one I saw by Dawn McVey in the current issue of Cards magazine.

Check out what the rest of the KSS Crew came up with - lots of Christmas treats! :) Have a great day!

TGIF!

Happy Friday everyone! It would be perfect here if it weren't raining, but I won't complain - not much! :)

I think that I forgot to share this card here. I got this cute Verve set, Cupcake Affair from my friend and fellow Prettie Girl, Jackie Rakoski and finally had a chance to ink it up! The sketch was from Julee Tillman for the last Verve release.

The dp and ribbon are Pink Paislee - isn't that ribbon perfect with the little cupcakes/! I used the little row of flowers stamp from the set to make the scalloped edge and did a bit of sewing around the edge of the card. The frosting on the cupcake is actually a piece of dp that was then coated in glitter.

Thanks for visiting! I hope you all enjoy a wonderful weekend!

Cardstock: Soft Sky, Real Red (SU!), White (Papertrey Ink),
Patterned Paper: Pink Paislee
Stamps: Cupcake Affair(Verve Stamps)
Ink: Memento
Accessories: Ribbon (Pink Paislee), Copic Markers, Dazzling Diamonds glitter, sewing machine, yellow pearl

Believe

Good morning!! I have a quick and fun card today to share. Remember I shared my Peter Pan card a couple of weeks ago from The Greeting Farm? Well, here is Wendy. The Greeting Farm's blog put out a challenge to create a no layer card so I played along. These images are so much fun to color - great practice with the Copics (and I need lots more!). The set is called Never Ever.

I've been noticing lots of purple in my blurfing this week so when I sat down to color purple was the first color I reached for! I added a scored box 1/4" from the edge all around the card - except where Wendy was in the way. After coloring Wendy, I stamped the book again on a separate piece of paper, cut it out and popped it up with foam adhesive. I added some glossy accents to Wendy's glasses and her "patent leather" shoes (if you click on the close-up picture you can get a better look at the shine!). Finally, I added some purple Swarovski crystals to the corners. I think I like no layers- it's simple but clean.

Lots of fun going on around here! I hope you've checked out the (temporary) Stamping Around blog and seen the information about Stamping Around Connecticut and Stamping Around Vermont!!! Registration for CT must be in by June 23 so don't miss out - I'd love to meet you there! :) We've been so encouraged by the support of many friends and leading companies in the industry - stampers really are the BEST! Tune in tomorrow for a fun little suprise! :)

Prettie Red White & Black Wednesday - Finally!

I'm baaaaccckkk!!! I know I've told you all before - I am a very slow stamper! Add to this the fact that my 4 children are up and running around (I usually stamp late, late at night) . . . mmm, this was difficult to get finished! :)

We're off to swimming lessons so I'll just let you know that this set is Love You This Much from Paper Pretties. I'll add a bit more detail later today - have a great day everyone!!

Prettie Wrong Wednesday

LOL - Ok my friends, I made my Prettie Wednesday card late last night and was about to post it when I realized I did the wrong challenge!!! uuggghh!! So I'll be back a bit later this morning with the right card!! :)

Until then - check out what the other Prettie Girls did with the correct challenge!

On Par for Father's Day

Hello my friends! I decided I need to get started on Father's Day - yikes! It's Sunday you know?! So what better set to pull out than Right On Par from Paper Pretties! Now neither my husband, my father nor my father-in-law golf but it's still a great masculine image!! He's so fun to color & paper piece too! I used another sketch for this card - Danielle's Paper Pretties' Challenge for this week. You can play along and WIN a $5.00 coupon to the Paper Pretties Boutique. Check out the details on Danielle's blog.

I used some old DP from a 6x6 SU! paper pad along with kraft cardstock, a bit of scoring done on the Scor-Pal, some paper piercing on the top and bottom, a trim cut with the pinking shears and few fun buttons - some of my favorite stuff!! :)

Have you seen the news on the Paper Pretties homepage? Christie and her family are moving! It's been a long time coming and is such great news for them! You can benefit too - check out the Clearance section in the Boutique, there are some great deals! Have a great Tuesday everyone!

Mahalo

Welcome to Kitchen Sink Stamps Monday! Before I talk about today's card I wanted to wish Tammy Hershberger a fond farewell!! Today is her last day on the Crew. Best of everything Tammy, you're beautiful work will be missed!!! :)

Can you ever have enough Thank You cards? Seems like those and Get Well cards are the ones I need the most (although I am so very bad at mailing my cards - ugh!!). I reached for 3 Step Aloha today - I just adore the vintage Hula girl! She's so easy to stamp too - I use my Memento Dew Drops to ink the skirt and body separately and with their pointed tips it's a cinch! I also stamped a little plumeria flower under the sentiment . . . mmmm, I'd love a whiff of the tropics about now!! The sketch is this week's CPS #120 sketch.

Take a minute and check out what the rest of the KSS Crew has for you today! Only a couple more weeks until 7 NEW Kitchen Sink Stamps are released - I can't wait!! Until then, don't forget to use my coupon code (JULIE10KSS) for 10% when you order!

Funky Chairs

I loved this stamp the moment I saw it!! It's called Chairs and it's from Rubber Soul - and it's on sale!. I think the simplicity of the images are so beautiful - think of all the colors combinations and paper piecing opportunities there are here!! As you can hopefully see, I added some Crystal Effects to the seats to give them that "pleather" feel - you know that fun fake leathery material??? :)

I used the current CPS (#119) sketch and just turned it on it's side to fit my image. The dp is also from Rubber Soul, called Hoop-La. In case you haven't noticed, that particular shade of green is really one of my favorites!! And I probably never would have paired it up with the Summer Sunrise or Amethyst but it really works!

I made a quick little crocheted flower for one of the accents - it's probably only about 1" around or less so it really was quick! I didn't have the right shade for the center so I tried dying my white thread with a Copic markers . . . it worked! Now I wouldn't want to do it for a large project and it did make the cotten thread a bit stiff, but I was so tickled that it came out a perfect match! As you can see, I added a small brad to the center and backed it with the smallest size Blossom Nestabilities.

Thanks so much for stopping in today! I'm watching my nieces today so we'll have 7 children here - probably won't be stamping - lol!! :) Have a great weekend!

Cardstock: Summer Sunrise, White (Papertrey Ink), Almost Amethyst (SU!), Patterned Paper: Hoop-La (Rubber Soul), Stamps: Chairs, sentiment from Baby (Rubber Soul), Ink: Memento, Accessories: Summer Sunrise Ribbon (Papertrey Ink), Buttons (Pink Hedgehog Crafts), Brad, crocheted flower, Crystal Effects (SU!), Copic markers

Salt Challenge: Community of Faith

This week we are featuring Lythan's challenge - the Community of Faith. Please read her write up on the Salt blog. Here's one quote from it: "Community of faith could be a church, a group, your family, your area. You may want to focus on the highs or lows of trying to be the people together that Jesus has called us to be."
As I thought about it, I kept hearing a song in my head by Michael Card, "The Basin and The Towel." The song depicts the scene in the upper room when Jesus washed the feet of his disciples (John 13). When he has finished he tells them in vs. 15 "For I have given you an example, that you should do as I have done to you." I know for myself - especially has a mommy of 4 children - I constantly need a reminder that I am called to be a servant. Phew! That's tough! :)

This was my first attempt at digi-scrapping since I didn't really have any stamps that I felt would do justice to the theme. I've added the song lyrics in this post since they are difficult to read in on the page.

Thanks for visiting - please click over to the Salt blog and see the beautiful work by the rest of the team!

The Basin And The Towel
by Michael Card
In an upstairs room, a parable
is just about to come alive.
And while they bicker about who's best,
with a painful glance, He'll silently rise.

Their Savior Servant must show them how
through the will of the water
and the tenderness of the towel.

Chorus:
And the call is to community,
The impoverished power that sets the soul free.
In humility, to take the vow,
that day after day we must take up the basin and the towel.

In any ordinary place,
on any ordinary day,
the parable can live again
when one will kneel and one will yield.

Our Saviour Servant must show us how
through the will of the water
and the tenderness of the towel.

bridge:
And the space between ourselves sometimes
is more than the distance between the stars.
By the fragile bridge of the Servant's bow
we take up the basin and the towel.

Prettie Small Wednesday

Our challenge for today comes from sweet Christi - she asked us to make a 3x3 card that including a button. I loved this challenge!! 3x3 cards are so fun to make and I love buttons!!

I used the cute little row of coffee cups from the Paper Pretties' set Look Who's Perky. And look - I did a monochromatic card - wow!! LOL! I think I'll make a few more of these - what a great little card to send to a friend! Oh the inside reads "for the chat."

The button is one I've had in my sewing stash for years - it was a shank style button with the center being red. The center shank just popped out and I was able to fold the ribbon in half, roll it a bit and put it through the hole of the button - pretty neat! I just remembered that I was going to stitch the bottom of the dp to the card - shoot . . . must have gotten distracted! ha ha!

Thanks for stopping in for a visit - check out the other Prettie Girls' cards, I can't wait to! ETA: I forgot to add that it's my turn to post the challenge!! I'm going to give a shameless plug here to my little blogger, Emma. If you check out her latest post she's issued a challenge hoping other children would play along, but I'm also going to ask the Prettie Girls to play along!! I'll also have my girls make new cards for the challenge. So hop over to Emma's Fun Place and check out your challenge! :)

P.S. If you live in New England be sure to check out information about Stamping Around Connecticut! I'd love to meet you there! :)

Happy Canada Day (just a bit early!)

Hello my friends!! I decided to stay with my patriotic theme today - but this time for my Canadian friends and Canada Day which is July 1st (right?).

This cute stamp is Canadian Girl from Paper Pretties, isn't she too cute? I made this card using clear cardstock (although it's very hard to photograph!!). I used the second largest scalloped square Nestabilities and then added a piece of patterned paper on the inside to hide the tape. I added some red Swarovski's to the 2 corners for some sparkle!

Have you visited The Paper Clip lately?? The Prettie Card of the Week is from Ann Kraniz who always makes wonderful cards!! Be sure to check it out!

Thanks for visiting today - remember to read 2 posts down about Stamping Around Connecticut!!

Cardstock: Clear, White (Papertrey Ink), Stamps: Canadian Day (Paper Pretties), Ink: Memento, Accessories: Red ribbon (Papertrey Ink), Copic Markers, Swarovski crystals
