Finally . . . Jules Jewels (aka Blog Candy!)

How about some Jules Jewels (aka Blog Candy) to take us into the weekend?? I've been hinting at this for about 2 weeks now - ever since my 2 year Blogaversary! I can't believe it's been 2 years - so much has happened, I've made sooooooo many wonderful friends and had so much fun!!

To say thank you, I have 2 different packages up for grabs (sorry I don't have photos of them today). 1) The fabulous Kitchen Sink Stamps set Swirly Hearts & Stars and a full size VersaMagic Pixie Dust ink pad and 2) the adorable Cuddle Me Sophia stamp set from Paper Pretties. I will most likely be adding a few little extra treats to each package as I clean through my stamping area this weekend!

The countertops for my space have arrived today and my brother is coming to install them this afternoon - I am SOOOOO excited!! It's been over a year now since we started this project - sometimes it pays to patient though. My brother was able to get me some really neat, rustic pine cabinets for . . . FREE!!! When we had looked at cabinets last year it was going to be a huge chunk of money so we waited - so glad I did!! These cabinets are perfect in my old farmhouse!!! When it's all installed I'll take a few pics and let you see, although I do have at least one other piece still coming. Since we saved money on the cabinets my hubby said I could order Kit A here - isn't that cool?! It will be so nice to have a place to store papers, etc., without it being exposed to little hands! *wink*!! :)

So leave me a comment to be entered for the Jules Jewels, tell me what your favorite storage piece is or your best organizational idea! I will draw 2 random names on Wednesday, February 11. Have a fabulous weekend!

  1. That is a tough question to answer. Craft organization has always been difficult for me since I don't have closed storage. I try to use the craft things as accessories in the room. I like storing my ribbon on clothes pins in plastic jars by color. Thanks for all the inspiration. I can't wait to see your finished space.

  2. Oh how exciting! Let's see...I LOVE my ribbon organizer that's the "throw it in and pull one out" kind of thing. It works SO well for me. Love the blog...keep up the incredible work!

  3. I just redid my room, which just became totally mine instead of shared. My daughter calls it "mommy's pink room". :) Anyway, my favorite piece is a newly purchased Expedit bookshelf from IKEA. I love it. The cubes are big enough to hold 12x12 items, which is a big help. The other thing I love are my ribbon organizers from Oriental Trading. They are lazy susans with 3 3/8" dowels in 3 different heights. They work great.

Congrats on your blog anniversary and the new room!

  4. My favorite thing for organization is a little plastic case that holds about 50 little plastic boxes. I think it was made to hold beads but mine is full of brads and eyelets. I can see all my colors in one look and easily find what I need!

  5. I'm jealous! I want new cabinets and countertops!!! ;-) My favorite organizational/storage thing is my wide file drawer were I keep all my 8.5 by 11 paper organized by SU! color family. It makes it so easy to find what I need fast.

    Have a great day!
    Hugs,
    Jana

  6. Can't wait to see the finished look! My favorite storage item is one I made myself. I took a photo storage box from Michaels (3 for $5) and cut out a 1/2 inch tall window all the way along each long side, about a 1/2 inch below where the closed lid. All my ribbon fits in there on the "spool" and I can see it all because the little tail sticks out the side. Just put the one I want and off I go. And it only cost me $5 for 3 of them! It's not free but it's close.

  7. My favorite organization idea is my $5 ribbon holder, I purchase a dowel and two, I don't know, they might be coat hangers or towel holders, but the stick out and hold the dowel and give enough room for the ribbon spools to hand on them. I thought it was pretty nifty. The other thing as someone stated above is that I have the little Cropper Hopper embellishment plastic boxes and I keep all my charms, beds, brads, buttons, and eyelets in it and they are color coordinated and right there and visible so that I can use them. Thanks for the candy and the great inspirations.

  8. How fun to be creating a new space and your cabinets sound super!! An organizationl thing that works for me - I keep my ribbons in clear plastic hinged shoe-type boxes separated by what kind of ribbon they are - satin, grosgrain, figured grosgrain, twill/twine, papertrey Ink (they require their own boxes!) I keep the boxes on a shelf over my work table so they are easy to grab - I put a label on the end so I know what kind is in each box.

thanks for the chance to win!!

  9. Wooo Hoooo for the new counters and cabinets!! Happy Blogiversary too!!! Let's see...you'll laugh, I have my ribbons sorted by color and quite frankly they are all tossed into ginormous ziplock bags...the big storage ones...I "should" wrap them around the sweet clothes pins but sheesh, I don't have the patience to do that. Here's the thing, I just grab the colored bag that I'm looking for and I can see what is in the baggie and then grab what I need...Happy Friday!!!

  10. How exciting to be able to design your own space. Sometimes great things are worth waiting for. I hope you will share pics of it when it is completed. One of my organizing purchase is a rack that I keep all my 12 x 12 paper. Thanks so much for a chance at this awesome Jules Jewels.

  11. I live in a share house...so I have all my craft stuff in my room :( BUT, this week I got some cube shelves from Target... a 12 cube and a 6 cube....I love that everything has it's own place (ie: embossing stuff together, primas, glitter, ribbon etc) I also love that it's all there for me to look at...i find all the colours a real inspiration and I'm more likely to use something if I can see it!
Have fun with organising your space...can't wait to see the pics of it when it's done :)

  12. What awesome candy!

Storage ideas? That is always a big one for us crafters, isn't it? Well...my favorite for my cardstock is hanging folders in 2 plastic tubs from Walmart. It is cheap and does not take up a lot of space. :0)

  13. I like using the plastic shoebox size storage. They are the right size to hold quite a bit and you can see through them to see what is inside. And they stack nicely, too.
Glad you are finding just what you want for your space.

  14. Hi Jules, cool blog candy... I think my favorite storage pieces are my square stackable 'cabinets' from Michael's. They come in different configurations and w/ the oft-used 40% off coupon (love those coupons), my husband and I ran around to diff Michael's stores to get a few at a time and have been building a small wall of these cabinets for about $15-16 ea. :) The nice thing is that they can be added to w/o too much of an initial expense over time. :)

  15. Oh this is hard, my craft room is a work in progress. . . . . I have to say at this time the best storage I have are curtain rods to hang all my punches on. All in plain site & off the desktop.

    Happy blogsaversary!!

  16. Craft storage! That's a challenge. Every year I need to re-organise my craft things. What I like most is my custom made furniture that comes with shelves, cupboards on top and bottom rows and drawers in the centre row.

  17. Oh new cabinets! That's exciting Julie...can't wait til they are installed and we can see pictures!!
I've finally got your blog link fixed! YEAH! Now I can visit from my laptop!!
My best storage is my paper. I have them in files that are clearly labelled so if I need something I can always ask Chloe to get it for me ;) It helps too when friends come over to stamp. They can easily find the correct colours!
Thanks for the chance to win!

  18. One of my favorite organization things is my ribbon organizers. They are metal bars with hanging racks from the kitchen org section at IKEA. Not only does my ribbon get organized, I can put all my punches on the metal bars as well. And, they are cheap!

  19. How exciting for you to have your own space! My husband recently enclosed our carport and turned it into a craft room for me. I have pretty blue paint on the walls, white bead board on the lower 1/2 with pretty white chair rail, molding and baseboards. We chose some pretty white flouted molding around the doorways, too. I have one big white cabinet that holds a LOT of scrapbooking and card making stuff! One of my favorite organizational things that I have in my new room is a big L-shaped oak desk. I'm too spoiled, I tell ya! But I can have my laptop to my left and a work space to my right. I like to pull up my favorite websites for inspiration (yours is one of course!) and that way I can work on my project and turn my chair to the left to take another peek at my computer. Or I can move my laptop and have my Big Shot right where I need it and I can stamp in the other area. Another thing I just have to mention is my SU ink pad & reinkers organizer. It sits on my desk and I have all my inks right at my fingertips. I may have to get an extension soon!

My husband and I have an idea for storing all my lovely punches. I have a lot from SU, Martha Stewart & Fiskars that have the long handles. I had been told that if you were to put a cheap metal curtain rod mounted on the wall, you can "hang" those punches on it. If you can picture it, the punch would be facing up and the handles down and the curtain rod would fit right between the two handles with the bottom of the punch against the wall. My hubby doesn't want to put any holes in his precious walls that he worked so hard to build! LOL So he is going to make an open cabinet and instead of using curtain rods, we will use dowels running across from one side of the cabinet to the other. I hope that makes sense. We are going to paint it white to match the rest of the room. I can't wait 'til he gets started on it!

Good luck with the rest of your room and how wonderful that you got your cabinets for FREE! Those are awesome storage cabinets for paper. Wish I had room for them (and money for that matter) LOL! And thanks for the chance at Blog candy! (sorry my post was so long)

    ((hugs))

  20. I don't have any favorites other than my shelves....my craft room is a disaster and I am wanting to reorganize and enjoy reading what other people have done! It takes me so long to make a decision that I end up doing NOTHING and the stuff piles up more & more. Thanks for a chance to win some more STUFF! :D

  21. I WISH a had some organization! I have a small room and I put stuff as I can find space! More disorganized! Lucky you for your space!! I'll be checking the comments to find some tips to be organized!

  22. My favorite storage piece is a wood wall mounted open shelf type unit that my husband built me. It holds my inks, stamp cleaner, etc. and is mounted right above my desk on the wall because I like having everything within reach while I work.

  23. Wow! That kit is great! Congratulations! I think my favorite organization tool is my Making Memories carousel. It holds almost all of my essential everyday papercrafting tools.

  24. Free cabinets, wow, lucky you. I'm in the process of reorganizing my craft room. For now, my favorite organization tool are my 2 CD racks. I've unmounted all of my stamps, sorted them by categories and labeled my CD cases. Because there are no shelves between the CD; I can store in the remaining room a few other things like a 4 X 6 photo album with all my brass stencils in it, my acrylic blocs (for the stamps) etc. Those two racks have door so when doors are closed nothing shows and everything is away from dust and light!
    Good luck with your reorganising!
Thanks for a chance to win these beautiful blog candies!

  25. UGH!! Organization is someting I continually do and change. I have to say I love IKEA for there rods to hang my punches on they also have great bookcases where my stamps are. Congrats on your storage!!

  26. I keep my rolls of ribbon along the back edge of my stamp room table in a long plastic U-shaped gutter that I bought at Home Depot. They are very visible and take up little space.

    ReplyDelete
  27. You're so luck to get cabinets and free at that. I think My favorite organizational tip is I use the bead storage boxes they are about $2 each and have approximately 20 spaces. I have one for each color of embellishment so all my pink buttons, flowers, brads eyelets and other embellies are all in the same box. This works great for me. Thanks for the chance to win.

  28. I pulled out a wooden cabinet from someone's garbage. IT has narrow shelves and lots of them! They are perfect for storing ribbon! And better yet? It was free! Congrats on your 2 years! : )

  29. organization? me? not so much! i am so far from organized, you don't want tips from me. Kayla T.

  30. Yummy! Love blog candy... the best kind... without calories. :o) I love my bag that holds my Cuttlebug dies and embossing plates... and I just organized my Nestabilites dies, using those appr. 8x5 plastic sheets that unmounted stamps stick to and sheets of magnet... now i just have to buy the box that holds the sheets. :o) TFS!

  31. congrats on 2 years!!
My best advice is for everything to have its own place.

  32. Congrats on your 2 years. Great to look back and see progress eh?
I have a unit that is similar to the Ikea cube like storage. There are 9 13x13 cubes. There are 6 drawers and shelving for all the other cubes. I've arranged it to my liking, but now it is overflowing.
Good to see your waiting for your kitchen stuff paid off.
    Thanks for sharing

  33. Congratulations on two years. Will be exciting to see your pictures.
I store my my thin width ribbon on wooden clothes pns and hold the ribbon on to the clothes pin with a straight pin. For my ribbon on spools I store them in a plastic box that has holes on the sides. A wooden dowel is placed in the middle of all the spools to hold them in the container. The ribbon is then threaded out the sides of the plastic container. It is easy to see all colors and grab what you need. I got the plastic containers at wall mart and the dowel's at a hardware store. I also store all my 8 1/2 paper in a file cabinet. They are sorted by color. I store my 12 x 12 papers on plastic shelves I purchased at my local memories store. I hope this helps. Thanks for a great give a way. Susan N. (Not Curtis)

  34. I think the best thing I did was to organize all my cardstock in plastic file boxes each with its own individual file folder. I have a limited space issue so this helps tremendously!! Love your quilt card!! Congrats on 2 years!!!

  35. Can't wait to see pictures of your kitchen. I love looking at remodels so I can get ideas for that "some day" when we can redo our kitchen. What luck getting your cabinets for free!

I don't know that I have a favorite piece but I do like the little crates that my sister found yesterday at the Dollar Tree. The little dollar crates that my sister found are perfect for all of our CTMH stamp sets (and we have lots and lots of them). Before yesterday we had them stored in 3 different baskets (1 large and 2 small) which took up a lot of space and had some wasted space inside because the sets didn't fit the best. Now all the sets fit into the 6 little crates and the crates fit on the shelf where the larger basket was. We now have extra space to fill up with other stamping stuff. (My cousin and I both keep our stamping stuff at my sister's house so we need all the extra space that we can get.)

  36. my best organizational idea/tip is how i store my cardstock scraps. i have a desk drawer with hanging folders for each SU cardstock color. in each hanging folder is a quart size baggie which holds my scraps. i am in that drawer every day that i stamp. very close at hand and easy to use.

    ReplyDelete
  37. My favorite storage idea is my SU stack and store caddy. I can find all my little brads, buttons and eyelets in a pinch.

Great Card! Congrats on 2 years!

  38. Nontraditional valentines with no red or pink are just perfect for the guys in our life. You did a great job! My favorite storage units are 4 regular office supply stacking units with 3 drawers each that fit my cardstock. I bought them at a garage sale and so saved a ton of money!

  39. Great Card Julie. My favorite storage item is for my punches. Not an original idea, but from Jana, A cotton shoe holder that fits over a door, top to bottom, actually there are 12 large pockets and 12 smaller pockets. I can't describe the pocket material as netting, but cotton with holes in it so you actually see through it. I got it at Bed, Bath, and Beyond (I think they are out of business now). I really liked someone's idea for Nestabilities. I need to try that next! Hugs. Nana Brown

  40. Organization???!!! Can one be organized and creative at the same time? I do have a clear plastic shoe holder that houses MOST of my punches and a couple of Mason jars for Prima flowers...I suppose that counts as being organizaed!

    ReplyDelete
  41. Organization is a total challenge for me as I don't have my own room. I share my stamp stuff with the family dining room. So...What I am loving right now is a large rolling cart that has about 10 drawers in it. I have punches in one, my cuttlebut in one, my ribbon, my eyelets and brads, etc... I also have this smaller storage for my eyelets and brads that looks like a box of tic tac boxes. They work great and you can see exactly what is in them.

I love reading the other comments, sounds like I need a trip to IKEA.

Thanks for the chance to win.

  42. I found two old school library film strip file cabinets that store my single wood mounted stamps organized by category (flowers, birthday, Christmas, etc.). Thanks for inspiring us!

  43. Congrats girl! I am bad about organizing too since I do not have a lot of room but one thing that I have just discovered is putting my ribbon spools onto a curtain hanger. :)

  44. oh i am the last person to talk about being organized. ;)
but i love little bottles to hold buttons, ribbons, pins, pens, etc.

  45. Julie...I just popped in to see what's going on in your corner of the world today. Your cards are so great! Sorry to hear about all the sickness in the home. My greatest organizational and completely functional "find" is a fabulous two layer spinning carousel that I chanced upon at the Pottery Barn Outlet Store (which I am fortunate to live near!). It holds all of my most used supplies right in front of me. Since I use the kids old computer counter area which is in a corner, I do my stamping on the roll out keyboard drawer with my Scor-Pal directly on the desk in front of me and the carousel sitting in the corner within arms reach. Perfect!

  46. I've purchased several of the organizational white boxes from Michael's and really like them. Rhey stack on one another and come in open shelves for paper, 3-drawer boxes, and there'a another style I can't think of at the moment. I also have shelves on my walls that hold my rubber stamps. I always think you ladies have a ton of stamps and it's hard to visualize how you can organize them. I suppose if they're unmounted, the can go into notebooks and such.

  47. Hi loving all the great inspiration here, I want to make some flowers and hearts too. Can I get a crochet flower pattern from you ? This flower is one I want to make too. Great giveaway. I use towels bars on the wall to store my punches on so they are handy to view and use.
