Birthday Invitations

Good afternoon! Tuesday is always my late day because I have a commitment in the morning. So . . . my task today was to create a birthday invitation for my son's 2nd birthday party. I knew we were having a cowboy theme after my SIL sent us those beautiful cowboy/girl outfits for Christmas, plus Cowboy Kid is the perfect stamp set for a cowboy party!

I had a lot of "help" and inspiration with this card. First of all, the March issue of Paper Crafts magazine has a great card done by Lauren Meader of Pittsfield, NH. Her card really gave me some great ideas, like putting the rope in the cowboy's hand and cutting his hat, boots and holster out of Creamy Caramel. What I changed from her card, among other things, is that I used a faux suede technique for them.

I recently saw this tutorial by Andrea Werner at Stampin' in the Prairies which she learned from another blogger, Julie at Paper Pleasing Ideas. (There is another method of making faux suede but that one calls for brown liquid applique, which I do not have. This technique also seemed much easier.) It's probably hard to see in the photo (if you click on it, it should get bigger) but it comes out really looking like suede . . . very cool!! I did sponge Close to Cocoa and Really Rust on my "suede" to give it a little more depth.

I love the look of the suede and the "roped" invitation (which BTW, is from Stamping Bella). Oh, I almost forgot, his bandanna was also cut out, I stamped Buckaroo Blue cardstock with the small paisley background stamp from Fresh Fillers in white craft ink before cutting it out and layering it on. Now I just need to make about 7 or 8 more of these and send them out . . . his birthday is the 24th so I better giddy'up! :)

Cardstock: Buckaroo Blue, Ruby Red, Creamy Caramel, Whisper White
Stamps: Cowboy Kid, Fresh Fillers, Itty Bitty Backgrounds (SU!), Please Join Us (Stamping Bella)
Inks: Stazon Black, White Craft, Buckaroo Blue
Accessories: Hemp Twine, Star Eyelets, 1/16" hole punch, glue dots,

Hope you're having a great day and thanks for stopping by!

  1. Whoa...it's good that you don't have any more invites to do than this...what a lot of work that would be! Awesome job...great use of the twine!
