Autumn Leaves & a "New" Gig
Good morning! A few years ago I was on the Say It With Letters design team. If you are not familiar with SIWL, here's a quick description:
SIWL specializes in custom cut wall letters and shapes and offer select papercrafting kits, vintage glitter and other specialty items. Each shape is custom cut, hand sanded and unfinished. Made from sturdy 1/2 inch thick MDF (super smooth surface for painting, decoupaging or embellishing.) There are keyholes cut in the back for easy hanging on all shapes and they can cut sizes from 6 inches to 48 inches and in just about any font!I'm so excited to say that I'm back on the team and will be creating with their wonderful shapes again monthly! The new team includes some "regulars" (some who have been there since the beginning) and some fresh faces! Here's the list
:
- Our first projects have been posted on the Say It With Letters blog and everyone has done such a great job showing the versatility of the product! Be sure to visit and see each one! I was sent the new Assortment of Autumn Leaves, 3 leaf shapes in different sizes. I had an idea to use metal, but at first had a hard time finding the supplies. Then I found a great source on Ebay HERE. Not only were the prices the best I found for copper on the internet (plus FREE shipping!), but they worked with me and communicated so well even though they were on vacation! They got me what I needed so fast it was incredible!
Here's how it came out - I ended up using Brass, Aluminum and Copper with a different design on each (I used 5mil metal which was a great thickness but I also think 3mil would work just fine!).
Getting a good picture of them was a challenge, shiny is hard to photograph, but hopefully you can get the idea. For the 2 smaller leave I embossed the metal using a Cuttlebug (one with an embossing folder and the other with an embossing plate). For the large, copper one I first traced the shape on the copper and then punched it using a hammer and nail. Once I had my design I cut it out and adhered it to the shape which I had painted.
This was really a fun project, I'd like to try working with the metal again - maybe with proper punching tools! :)
Thanks so much for visiting today - have a great day!
